I recently decided to browse over the timeline of NBA logos for each active franchise and astoundingly there are so many moments that popped in my head.
That wonderful, ridiculous font that looks culled from a cartoon. Strong font, didn't get too crazy with the design elements, strong colors. A font that risky could look ridiculous, but it still works, and the deep red and black are strong. It takes confidence to design a logo this stark, this obvious. The logo is fine but what sets this apart is the colors -- that rich orange of the basketball, the complementary gray, that blue that ties it all together. The font is a little off-kilter, but it gives it a worn-in, realistic feel. Orlando Magic: They’re the Magic after all and located in Orlando. I also love the "M" in the neck of the deer, and those are some pretty antlers.Simple, clean, funky retro colors in the baksetball. That green. Also the font is very, very bad.This is better than what they had before, but that's not saying all that much. The black. A slightly squatter version of the Blazers logo, with a similarly uninspired design and crummy font. I like it. A "B." Perfection. The logos that NBA teams should actually use. I know it looks better on color blocks, but the logo alone is bleh. That yellow bridge is the most inspired bit of design in all of NBA branding, a gorgeous, stark statement of geographic pride. Bold color, good font, minimal design. An iconic look, and one they've kept more-or-less consistent over the years. A bright basketball, the team name in a rich color -- there's not a whole lot more you need.
